SCHOOL BREAKFAST
SUCCESS STORY

Through the Michigan Team Nutrition Youth Wellness Initiative, our team put together an approach to increase participation in school breakfast. We offer "Grab and Go" breakfast bags to our students after 1st hour in addition to our normal school breakfast prior to the school day. Students are allowed to purchase a Breakfast-take it to Go 2nd hour and eat in the classroom at the beginning of class.

We began the program in steps, phasing it in one grade level at a time, currently only the 6th grade is participating. The 7th grade program will be added in one week, and finally 8th grade second semester. With the addition of the Grab and Go offerings our breakfast participation has increased by 330%! We anticipate that once the program is offered to our entire population that nearly 30-40% of our students will be eating school breakfast.
