SCHOOL BREAKFAST
SUCCESS STORY

In March, we rolled out a "Nutrition Break Bag" throughout our entire district. Each bag consists of individually wrapped, pre-portioned healthy choice items and 100% fruit juice that meet the requirement for a school breakfast, but can also be used by our students for their classroom snack break. To come up with our items for the bags, we conducted a food sampling showcase at Moorsbridge Elementary School. We selected 3 different grade level classrooms and sampled over 15 healthier choice items to get a good range of young taste buds. Each class voted on their favorite items as well as their least favorite. The favored choices of the sampling showcase became the contents of our bags.

Each morning, our café staff assembles the Nutrition Break Bags. On their way to class, students can stop in the cafe grabbing a bag to eat for breakfast in their classroom or during their class snack breaks! To promote the Nutrition Break Bags, we printed up color flyers and sent them home with every elementary student. I am excited to report that we have increased our breakfast counts district wide by 18% since beginning the Nutrition Break Bags.
