SCHOOL BREAKFAST SUCCESS STORY
In December of 2008 the number of students participating in the breakfast program had dropped to record low numbers. Buses were running a little later because of weather and students did not have time for breakfast. The number of student breakfasts dropped below 20 per day.
A decision was made to implement a grab and go breakfast option. Students could either take breakfast in the cafeteria or if they were running late they could get a sack breakfast and take it to the classroom.
This decision turned out to be a win for the classroom, the cafeteria, and the student. The classroom won because students who arrived late would still be in class on time instead of finishing breakfast in the cafeteria. The cafeteria won because breakfast counts went up to 75 per day. The students won because they received a healthy meal to start their day and they didn't have the stress that comes with the possibility of not making it to school on time.
