SCHOOL BREAKFAST
SUCCESS STORY
Pellston Public Schools offer a universal breakfast for all of our students. However, the new in-coming 6th grade students are usually intimidated by the "big" kids in the school cafeteria during breakfast time. This year, the 6th grade teachers decided to have all of the 6th graders come to the cafeteria for breakfast as a group and to have their own seating section.
There are approximately forty-six 6th graders and normally we have between 40 and 44 of these students come for breakfast. This has increased this building's breakfast average count from 105 to 140 daily. A larger percentage of our building's student body is now more ready to conquer the up-coming day and it ultimately helps the bottom line by getting more students coming to the cafeteria and feeling comfortable . This equates to more students eating hot lunch as well. In fact, this year our district breakfast participation (k-12) is hovering around 50% and our district lunch participation (k-12) is 66%.
