SCHOOL LUNCH
SUCCESS STORY

Sheridan Elementary School, at The Public Schools of Petoskey, has moved forward with healthier meal options for breakfast and lunch. We selected our healthier choices when we put our schools Wellness Policy in place.

The food changes we made included the following on our food bar and with our main food items: an expansion to our fresh fruit and vegetables, romaine lettuce, spinach lettuce, whole grain food items, wheat food items, cage free eggs, and more frozen vegetables versus canned vegetables.

We have increased our fresh fruit and vegetable consumption by 65%. Since this was such a huge success at Sheridan Elementary that we have implemented the changes at each school building in the district.
