SCHOOL LUNCH
SUCCESS STORY

Our school Head Cook made some changes in what is offered to students for hot lunch. We have always offered peanut butter sandwiches during lunch for students that were still hungry or students that did not like what was being served for lunch. These were optional and set on a table that the students could serve themselves but they had to go through the lunch line first.

Since the start of school in August 2007, the cook has served these sandwiches made with whole wheat bread rather than white bread. Whole wheat sandwiches are served daily there is no option for white bread sandwiches; we serve only pizza made with whole wheat crust; we offer fresh fruit and veggies at least two times per week; most weeks more often; we offer 2 choices for milk at breakfast and lunch, 2% white milk and 1% chocolate, most students choose the chocolate.

These changes were the result of our school Wellness Committee, our Wellness Team meetings and most importantly, because we completed the HSAT.
