SCHOOL LUNCH SUCCESS STORY
In 2005-06, St Johns formed a District Wide Coordinated Health School Team and four additional schools completed the HSAT. A staff person from the Food Service Department participated on each team. At the beginning of the 2006-07 school year the following changes were implemented by our Food Service Department:
• Wheat bread is being used on all sandwiches instead of white bread throughout the district • Wheat hot dog buns and multi grain hamburger buns are being used throughout the district • Bulk Ranch dressing on the condiment table is replaced by Ranch cups for students who choose salad • Fat Free or Lite Ranch Dressing in a packet is offered for those choosing a salad bar • Salt shakers were removed from the tables • A small size cinnamon roll instead of a large roll is being offered in the deli area
It is too soon to measure the impact that these measures have made but we have been surprised to hear from parents who say their children won't eat anything without Ranch Dressing!
