SCHOOL LUNCH
SUCCESS STORY

The Pewamo - Westphalia Jr/High School Health Team used its $500 mini-grant to improve the lunch choices. Our team had previously completed the HSAT and one of our goals was to make healthier food choices for the students. The Food Service Director was elated about making healthy purchases that students would sample & hopefully enjoy and then place on the lunch line or la carte line.

The team consisted of adults and students getting together for ideas of what would be healthy for the lunch choices yet focus on what the students would buy. Some of the choices were cheese, yogurt, nuts, pudding cups, granola bars, baked chips and rice cakes were available for sampling through the classroom visits. In the past, we only offered carte pizza, nachos, chips, candy and large chocolate chip cookies in the ala carte line.

Everyone was very pleased with the success and the students would like to see a class started that does the taste testing for the school menu.
