SCHOOL BREAKFAST SUCCESS STORY
Dexter School's Food & Nutrition teamed with Lifetime Fitness teachers at Creekside Elementary to promote the importance of breakfast.
Blueberry Breakfast Smoothies were prepared for students, staff, and parents. What a big hit! Everyone raved, and recipes were handed out to all. Curriculum and breakfast promotions were enhanced by the "Catch a Rainbow" posters displayed, and coordinated bookmarks were handed out to all enrolled students! Lifetime Fitness teachers did a bulletin board display featuring "Breakfast Importance & Nutritional Facts." Breakfast worksheets with "Fun Facts" were handed out to students in the classrooms as well. Even the local newspaper reported in an article "The Importance of Breakfast."
Lifetime Fitness teachers polled the students who ate breakfast before the lessons were started and afterwards. Much more hands went up after the curriculum was completed than before. And in the cafeteria, these breakfast results were confirmed, in one month participation in the breakfast program at Creekside increased from 29 to 80!
