About School Success Stories

The School Success Stories website was developed to collect stories from Michigan schools and school districts. Schools and school districts that are improving policies, programs, and practices focusing on healthy eating, physical activity, and tobacco-free lifestyles are role models for other schools/school districts. Sharing your success is critical to improving the environment in all Michigan schools. Success stories of all kinds may encourage your constituents to support and/or continue to support your efforts in creating healthy school environments.

By submitting your own success stories, your Coordinated School Health Team(s) (CSHT) and school/school district receive recognition for your efforts and inspire other Michigan Schools! When you share your success, you help other schools and school districts make improvements in their school environments.

Submitting a story is quick and easy to do. You start by indicating whether the success was achieved at the school or school district level. Then you enter some background information about your school/school district and write a brief description of a specific success your school/school district has achieved related to school health. After you submit your success story, it will be reviewed for clarity by our administrative staff and posted to the website.

Published success stories are organized by topic and subtopic to enable you to search for success stories with proven ideas by areas of interest for your school or school district. Examples of some of the categories include:

• Increasing Physical Education time
• Not using food as a reward
• Establishing/adopting model asthma policies
• School climate improvements
• Sun safety policies
• Establishing a Coordinated School Health Team
