"The wise man should
consider that health is the greatest of human blessings. Let food be your medicine."

- What is
the Nutrition Environment Assessment Tool?
The Nutrition Environment Assessment Tool (NEAT) is an online assessment of a
community’s environment and policies related to promoting and supporting
healthy eating and the provision of access to healthy foods within the workplace,
community and school settings.
- Who should complete NEAT?
Any Michigan community (city, village, township) that is interested creating a
healthier community environment is welcome to complete the assessment.
- Why complete NEAT?
A community that supports and promotes good nutrition is a great place to
work and live. By completing NEAT, communities receive feedback about the extent
to which they make it easy for people to eat healthfully. Completing this assessment
offers ideas about changes and improvements communities can make to promote a
healthier lifestyle. For more on the benefits, visit the About NEAT section.
- Where is NEAT located?
Right here on this website. Register to begin completing NEAT for your community.
You can also review a print copy of the NEAT by visiting the Preview the NEAT page.
- How do communities get started?
Register to begin completing the NEAT for your community.
Registration only takes a minute or two. This website also provides information and
tools to help Michigan communities promote healthy eating. Visit the About Healthy Food Environments
page for more information.
